Traits of interest : Canine features

The canis Viritail is the earliest subspecies of Viritails. At one point, they were the only species of Viricauda in existence. All other subspecies branched from the canis Viris, having different adaptations for their exoplanetary environments.

 

These Viritails have canine features, hence the name. Their ears can be any variation similar to that of a wolf, fox, or domestic dogs. They have a sensitive nose like that of a dog's, being damp to the touch when healthy and awake, and dry when sick or asleep. Specialized teeth line their jaws, made for both ripping apart flesh and munching on the fruiting bodies of vegetation. Their pupils are often circular, although with intersubspecies breeding and mutation, slitted pupils are relatively common. 

 

Canis Viritails, being considered “true” Viritails in some sense, have a social privilege above other subspecies. Canis Viris are more likely to be wealthy, live in luxury, and have political influence. The Adeleye family, which has been in power for centuries, has been entirely canis. Because canis Viris are the only subspecies without an isolated planet, there is some concern that pure canis Viris will become effectively extinct. This has culturally led to increased scrutiny around canis Viris having children with non-canis individuals.
