VIRITAILS
Viritails are the original species that Moontails are based off of, pre-genetic customization. They do not have a complex trait list, and are only customizable via height, horn type, colour, pattern, and hairstyle.
Viritails MUST have cheek markings and/or tail patterns. The most common tail pattern is stripes. A Viritail with a blank tail is extremely rare. It is also very uncommon to see a Viri without horns, but there is a genetic condition that makes them unable to grow them. This condition is called Hypokerataplasia.
There are 5 subspecies of Viritails that evolved as the first Viris traveled and settled in other biomes of Hysia. During this time, they were simply known as morphs that assisted with living in their environment; like longer whiskers, bigger horns, and thicker fur. When they started colonizing other planets, the differences were further exaggerated, eventually evolving into distinct subspecies. Every Viritail has sharp teeth, signature tails, and pawed digits, but each has traits that make them unique!
Each subspecies has an exoplanet that they evolved on. Dustys on Ignit, Woolys on Androlla, Capritaur on Citrios, and Whiskers on Veniscis. The constant back and forth from these populations to Hysia means that they are fully integrated in Hysian life as well. However, the subspecies usually do not pass between exoplanets. For instance, you’re probably not going to find a Dusty on Citrios, but you might if they are a convict and were forced there or are uniquely interested in farming.
All subspecies of Viri can breed with one another. Moontails and Viritails can also breed, but this depends entirely on what part of the timeline they are in. In the present day, it is highly discouraged for a Moontail soldier to fraternize with Viritails they work near. In the future, when Moontails are allowed to be introduced to Hysia and their labratorial synthesis is halted, Moontail and Viritail relationships are more common, though still culturally frowned upon by Viris.
