Danger Level : 5/5

A harsh and hostile planet with an excellent source of minerals. No mammalian life ever evolved, and the planet is inhabited by insects, crustaceans, bacteria, fish, reptiles, and, in the past, amphibians.

When life first formed on the planet, it was a hot tropical haven. But as millions of years passed, its water has depleted. Animals adapted to a new scorching lifestyle, and all amphibious life went extinct. The springs that exist now all boil in the heat of the day. Most creatures lie dormant during the warmest hours and come out at night. Or, they moved to live entirely underground, using the cooler water in the vast cave networks as oases to survive.

Viritails discovered this planet in their expeditions to find more habitable and exploitable planets. They sent out groups of volunteers, convicts, and scientists to settle the planet. Initially, they were ravaged by hostile wildlife until they could set up pre-built fortified bases from the main planet. They quickly found that these bases were unsuited for this environment and had to design new ones. These new designs had a large temperature-controlled dome on the surface that would darken during the day to keep heat and sunlight out and turn clear at night. The glass was one-sided so that the local wildlife couldn’t see inside. This large dome would go down into the earth in multiple layers, occupying housing for the explorers, food courts and greenhouses, labs for science and refinery, and finally, an entrance into a mine. These bases drew in water from the springs underground and filtered it. Water is a problematic resource to gain, so the planet receives regular shipments of clean water, either synthesized or purified from other surrounding planets, that the Viritails use to leach resources.

Viris sent here were often chosen from hot climates on Hysia, namely Fervor Desert, to give them a better chance at survival. Viritails who survived on the planet long enough to have offspring eventually gave rise to the Dusty subspecies. These Viritails have fur between their pawpads to allow safe travel across hot surfaces and enlarged ears to hear subterranean enemies and dissipate heat. They also often sport dark markings on their faces to absorb sunlight and reduce glare. Future generations occasionally moved back to Hysia, creating a population there of Dusty Viritails as well.
